Since 2016, thousands of bars, restaurants, hotels, cafés and industrial companies as well as millions of households around the world have trusted the quality and strength of HALM glass straws. The daily endurance test in private households and hospitality businesses proves that HALM is the perfect companion for your drink. As HALM can be enjoyed safely in your drinks, we even recommend them, under parental supervision, for children aged 3 and up.

Your HALM gets its exceptional strength from the perfect ratio between wall thickness and inner diameter. That's why handling and cleaning are extremely easy and become a highlight of your drinking experience. Should your HALM straw accidentally be dropped, it will remain intact in most cases. And should it break on a very hard surface after all, the glass can be removed easily and safely and disposed of directly in a glass recycling container. Our production and quality assurance team makes sure that all HALM straws have successfully passed several quality checks to ensure that your HALM straws are delivered to you in perfect condition and last a lifetime!

Our straws are made from the highest-quality, purest special glass, manufactured and produced by our own team in Germany.

The unique formula of our high-quality, pure glass is based on the production of thermometer glass, which is made under conditions of the highest precision for durability. This also gives a HALM straw greater stability, so it can withstand extreme stress.

The actual shape of the HALM glass straw is completed by the rounded mouthpiece, which is created by flame-polishing both ends. This contributes to the unique drinking experience. In the final step of making a HALM, the glass is "calmed" in the kiln, which removes tension and thus ensures the stability of a HALM glass straw. Our kiln draws its energy from renewable resources in the form of solar power.

It is precisely this last step that is often missing with glass straw manufacturers from the Far East, whose straws are therefore usually of inferior quality. Many other retailers also use borosilicate glass for their straws. Borosilicate glass is a technical glass that contains boron oxide and, in poor manufacturing processes, is often mixed with other types of glass, which reduces the quality enormously. HALM special glass is the "original" and purest glass, containing no other elements that could potentially harm the environment. HALM glass is part of a circular economy and, unlike borosilicate glass, can be recycled without any loss of quality of the glass itself. Borosilicate glass ultimately ends up in landfill and is therefore not very sustainable and even harmful to the environment.

So our HALM straws are not only sturdy, but also part of a sustainable circular economy.

All our HALM glass straws have an inner diameter of 6 mm, so even the thickest smoothie fits through them. On the outside, the HALM is smaller than an inch (9mm), creating a perfect mouthfeel.

These dimensions are no coincidence: we developed the perfect ratio of inner to outer diameter to ensure the strength of HALM straws and to give you a pleasant and safe drinking experience.

Do you need a larger diameter? For our hospitality customers, we developed our Durstlöscher straws so that milkshakes or aperitif drinks with small pieces of fruit can be enjoyed even better.

We have not only developed a tactile design and a smooth mouthfeel, but also a wide selection of different lengths of HALM straws to make sure there is a suitable size for each of your glasses. Here you'll find all the lengths at a glance.

We've included a handy, plastic-free cleaning brush with almost every one of our sets, matched to the respective HALM straws. Only our sets with individual name engraving of 10 pieces or more come without a brush, as they are intended as place cards or wedding favours and are therefore handed out individually. That's why a cleaning brush per set isn't necessary.

At home, our straws come out wonderfully clean in the cutlery basket of the dishwasher. If a drink was particularly stubborn, our cleaning brush will help you get a crystal-clear straw again. We recommend using water and washing-up liquid, as this makes the brush easier to pull out of the straw and less likely to bend. We've already received feedback that trimming the brushes makes cleaning much easier. The brush is also especially handy on the go. You can quickly clean your HALM with a little water and stow it away safely thanks to your pouch for when you're out and about.

Our HALM glass straws always arrive cleaned and polished. So you don't need to clean them before first use.

We take our footprint on this earth very seriously, and sustainability is at the core of our values.

That's why our brushes are made from natural bristles and are more environmentally friendly than the usual polyester/plastic brushes. No animals are harmed, either in sourcing or in production. The fibres used come exclusively from a shearing process that does not affect the animals' well-being.

We have made it our mission to ensure the best cleaning for our glass straws while using only natural and, above all, plastic-free fibres.

So far, working closely with our product team, we have tried and tested many other materials, and our current natural-bristle brushes still come out as the most sustainable version. However, we are constantly striving to improve our products to meet our customers' needs. That's why we are still looking for a sustainable and vegan alternative to our current brushes.

HALM glass straws are the original and of the best quality worldwide. To represent this quality and to make sure you're always using the original and not a copy, we have very finely engraved our timeless HALM logo at one end of the straw.
If you'd like to serve your drinks without the HALM logo, you can simply turn the straw around and let the engraving disappear into the drink.

It's even nicer, though, to have cool designs and lettering on every HALM, as with our editions.

Would you like a very special message on your HALM straw? Here you can create your very own personal design and turn your HALM into something truly special. A personalised HALM set makes an even better gift for your favourite people - for example with engraved names, funny sayings or love messages. For your text you can choose between 10 different fonts and motifs and use up to 35 characters. You can also have every straw in your set engraved with the same text or with a different one.

Want to design your HALM straws yourself? What a lovely idea! Here's what you should keep in mind:

1. The length of the lettering depends on the length of the straw; as a rule, 35 characters is the maximum. For hygiene reasons, we leave a 3 cm gap at each end of the HALM.

2. As soon as your personal order has been received, our team will process it within 1-3 working days and ship it within the stated delivery time.

The engraving area is always 5,5 mm wide. Its length, however, depends on the length of the HALM. For hygiene reasons, 3cm are left free at each end for the mouthpiece. Our HALM straws therefore have the following engraving areas:

20 cm HALM: 14 cm long

Yes, for selected items – such as our set of 50 with custom engraving – you can try out a web preview directly on the product page. There you can choose from various fonts and motifs, which you can combine and test in the preview.

If you would like an even more precise approval, you can optionally add a digital preview with approval. You will then receive a designed preview by email and can give final approval to your layout before it is engraved.

Our HALM straws are dishwasher-safe. So cleaning them upright in the dishwasher's cutlery basket is the easiest and quickest solution.

If you don't have a dishwasher or prefer to clean your HALM by hand, almost every set comes with a plastic-free cleaning brush. We recommend using water and washing-up liquid, as this makes it easier to pull the brush out of the straw and removes all the dirt. We've already had feedback from our customers that trimming the brushes makes cleaning much easier.

Our glass withstands temperatures from -40 to +200 degrees. Cleaning in the dishwasher is therefore no problem at all. We recommend placing them upright in the cutlery basket so that your HALM straws get rinsed through properly.

HALM glass straws are manufactured, processed and shipped exclusively in Germany. This is how we guarantee environmentally friendly, short production and supply chains.

Our own exclusive production facility has over 60 years of experience in the glass industry. Thanks to our decades of experience in manufacturing thermometer glass, we have succeeded in producing exceptionally sturdy and therefore safe glass tubes. But it's not just production that is entirely in our hands: we also design, finish, pack and ship ourselves - all in Germany. Because that is the only way we can guarantee consistent quality at the highest level in the long term.

Our HALM straws are produced in our glassworks, which has over 60 years of experience in the glass industry. There, the glass batch mixture is melted in the furnace and drawn out. Once the HALM glass straw has reached its actual shape, it is given its typical HALM rounded mouthpieces by flame-polishing both ends, which contributes to the unique drinking sensation. In the final step of making a HALM, the glass is "relaxed" in the furnace, which removes tension and thus secures the stability of a HALM glass straw. Our furnace draws its energy from renewable resources in the form of solar power. Our production and quality assurance team makes sure that all HALM straws have successfully passed several quality checks, to guarantee that your HALM straws are delivered to you in perfect condition and last a lifetime!

But it's not just production that is entirely in our hands - we also design, finish, pack and ship ourselves. Only in this way can we guarantee you consistently high quality at the highest level in the long term. In doing so, we work closely with Lebenshilfe to enable people with disabilities to take part in working life.

We recommend HALM glass straws for children aged 3 and up - under parental supervision. Parents love them not only for the way they feel, but also because - unlike other straws - they are free from any toxins. There's just as little urge to chew on a HALM as there is on a drinking glass. Because it is "relaxed" several times in the kiln, glass splinters never break off it either. And if the straw should fall onto a stone floor several times, it breaks into large pieces that are easy to pick up, and it can be disposed of in the glass recycling bin like other recyclable drinking glasses. But don't worry: with a breakage rate of under 0,01%, this only happens in the rarest of cases.

Our special HALM glass withstands temperatures from -40°C to +200°C. It conducts temperatures rather than taking them on directly, which means there is less risk of burns with our HALM. For future use, we'd like to share the following tips with you:

👉 Generally, our HALM straws are also suitable for cleaning in the dishwasher. Simply place them upright in the cutlery basket and they'll be clean again in no time.

👉 As our brushes are made of natural bristles, the bristles may not all be exactly the same length. In some cases this can lead to faster wear during use. We therefore recommend carefully trimming the overly long bristles at the edge with scissors.

👉 Cleaning by hand with water and washing-up liquid is also helpful, as it makes the brush easier to pull out of the straw and less likely to bend.

When you think of straws, the impractical, ugly single-use plastic ones are probably the first thing that comes to mind. They are not only ugly, but also harmful to the environment.
Every day, 3 billion plastic straws are used worldwide and usually thrown away after just a few minutes. Compared with plastic bags or takeaway coffee cups, there is far less awareness in Germany of what plastic straws do to our environment. Yet in Germany alone, 40 billion single-use plastic straws are used every year. That is 1,3 plastic straws per person per day. They are comparatively small and weigh only a few grams – how much plastic can that be?

However, the life of a plastic straw does not end once the user disposes of it. It can take up to 500 years for the material to decompose completely. Contrary to popular belief, plastic straws cannot be recycled because of their size. Plastic straws disrupt the recycling process, clog machines and can even destroy them. So they are not recycled, but end up in landfill and in waste incineration plants.

Due to current (lacking) disposal routes, the single-use straw usually ends up in our waters, where it causes indescribable damage. Every 7th item found on beaches and in rivers is a plastic straw. That is why the EU decided to ban certain plastic and polystyrene items as of 3 July 2021 – including the plastic straw. More on the single-use plastic ban here.

HALM glass straws are the ideal alternative. They are not only sustainable thanks to their recyclability. They are also free from toxic chemicals, petroleum and any paint that can have a negative impact on the environment and on people. In addition, we produce our glass only from sustainable sources, work together with people with disabilities, ship climate-neutrally and plastic-free, and donate to Trash Hero World with every set sold, supporting cleanups in more than 12 countries. With the HALM Less Waste Initiative, we have made reducing (plastic) waste our vision.

A reusable straw only really makes sense if it contributes to sustainability and doesn't become a new waste product after use. That's why circularity through recycling in the glass recycling bin is our top priority.

Unfortunately, the glass commonly used on the market is not always recyclable. So-called borosilicate glass gets its name from the chemical element boron it contains. Boron is very resistant, but its higher melting point makes the recycling process in conventional glass recycling more difficult. Glass straws from HALM, on the other hand, are made of special glass that is 100% recyclable and extremely sturdy. Unlike other products, this makes them 100% environmentally friendly.

HALM glass production not only draws on renewable energy resources in the form of green electricity, it is even certified under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Our glassworks is the only glass production facility in Germany to hold this high-quality eco-label. What the EMAS label means is summed up nicely on its own website: "A look at the list of requirements quickly shows: EMAS organisations are serious about environmental protection" - and that is exactly how we see HALM too: we believe that a product is only sustainable if it is also produced sustainably.

Once a HALM straw is finished, it has a lifespan of many years - unlike the single-use straw, which is used for just 10 minutes on average before ending up in the bin. It not only withstands approx. 3.000 dishwasher cycles, it is also extremely sturdy.

Small quantities, however, are sent as a Großbrief (large letter) or Warenpost with Deutsche Post, as this is the most resource-efficient shipping method. Unfortunately, it doesn't include tracking. As a rule, though, your order should be with you within just a few days. If your order is going abroad, tracking is only possible above a certain weight, which depends on the destination country.

You're rarely at home and would therefore like to have your order delivered to a Packstation? Delivery to a Packstation is only possible for personalised items (set of 10 or more). The only important thing is that you don't forget your Postnummer (DHL customer number) and enter it in the “Company” field.

Also: delivery to Packstations and post office branches is possible, but not to PO box addresses.

Unfortunately, standard items cannot be sent to a Packstation. If you are not at home at the time of delivery, your order will usually be left with a neighbour or at a nearby service point.

As soon as the parcel has arrived and we have recorded the return, we will get in touch with you and send you the new item you want or refund the amount. You bear the cost of the return shipment. By not enclosing return labels, we want to raise awareness of mindful consumption, especially when shopping online.
