Earth Day: over 50 years of Earth Day
Every year on April 22 - what the day means and how HALM contributes to it.
For the Sea Life EditionThe April 22 is Earth Day! Since 1970, each year the day has drawn attention to the major environmental issues of our time under a new motto – from Climate protection over Species conservation until the Plastic Flood in our oceans. We all bear responsibility for the beautiful planet we live on – and which through the Warm climate strong endangered is. We need to do something about it. On earthday.org Here you will find activities and ideas to join in from all over the world.
What is Earth Day?

Behind Earth Day is the organization EARTHDAY.ORG (formerly Earth Day Network). Their mission: a global environmental movement to establish and people to mobilize`, to form and to activate. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, it has worked with partners in over 190 countries together.
On April 22 of every year, the The hour of birth celebrated by this movement – now for over 50 years. Each year, the day has a different motto to draw attention to Important topics and big problems to draw attention to our Earth.
What does climate change mean?
… and what does that have to do with us?
Through the natural The greenhouse effect Sun rays remain "trapped" in the atmosphere surrounding the Earth, which consists in part of methane, carbon dioxide, and water vapor—this generates heat. Due to the extreme CO2 production large additional quantities of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere, which retains even more heat. Drivers include, among others, the high Methane emissions from cattle, the combustion fossil fuels, Factory, Cars and Aircraft.
Until 2100, the global temperature could increase by 3 degrees Celsius. Even now, at not even half of this value, the consequences are visible: polar ice caps and G l a c i e r s a r e m e l t i n g, which Sea level is rising and Coastal regions become flooded. In southern areas, there is a risk of Heat waves, wildfires, and droughts. Animals diebecause they cannot adapt to the rapidly rising temperatures or lose their lives in forest fires. Also the Agriculture is suffering under the changed weather conditions.

What the lockdown showed for the environment
The figures on climate change are alarming - and it is often assumed that our human contribution to it is not really that significant. The coronavirus lockdowns in spring 2020 showed how quickly the environment recovers when industry, travel, and everyday life suddenly come to a standstill:
- In China sank the carbon dioxide emissions by at least 25 %, nitrogen dioxide by 37 %.
- NASA satellites showed that air pollution in the northeastern USA by 30% dropped.
- According to Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air was in India since the lockdown the lowest average Nitrogen dioxide pollution measured, the highest ever recorded in urban areas in spring.
According to Federal Environment Agency but these values mean not, that the changes long-term are. But they vividly show how much our behavior can achieve - and that more conscious consumption and less traffic have a direct impact on air quality and the climate.
The Importance of Earth Day
The 22nd of April 1970 was a special day: 20 million Americans – at the time 20% of the US population – took to the streets to stand up for our environment protest and a new way in Toward environmental protection to demand. That was how Earth Day began.
Thanks to this movement, new laws like the Clean Air Act, which Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency the (EPA) was founded, and other countries followed suit. And all of this because individual people raised their voices – that shows how much one reach can.
What is HALM doing to combat climate change and protect biodiversity?
Besides ensuring that our Sustainable products and are environmentally friendly, we try also to do something good for the Earth in other ways. That is why we support Earth Day and other organizations and initiatives committed to our planet.
Our product
HALM is fairly and pollutant-free produced. We source our Raw materials from sustainable sources, production takes place with short transport routes instead.
For production we use Solar energyHALM is packaged in eco-friendly FSC® paper from sustainable forestry, printed with Color without petroleum.
HALM glass is 100% recyclable and can in the glass recycling container disposed of.
Less Waste Initiative
With the HALM Less Waste Initiative we support Cleanups worldwide: Our 100% plastic-free product avoids creating new waste – and waste that has already been created Garbage is collected and proper disposed of.
For this, every HALM set donates to Trash Hero. The environmental organization regularly organizes primarily in Southeast Asia Cleanups and already has thousands of tonnes of waste collected.
Our Donation Edition: Sea Life
If we don't act now, it could be 2050 more plastic than fish in the sea. For our Sea Life Edition have therefore dealt with OceanCare have joined forces and donate to the marine conservation organization for every set sold.
